I was so worried I'd made it a full week without at least one incredulous story. Not so. This morning, as I saw the bus clang-clang-toot-tootin toward me, I realized ahh, they have no intention of stopping! They knew very well, I'm a white girl with a big backpack and from time-to-time, I need a little coddling. Clearly, I'm no longer a novelty. They made me run and jump on the bus as if we were actually in a hurry for something. The definition of hurry doesn't quite exist in Tanzania. Rather, we saunter, meander, putter even. What was this nonsense? I tried to close my eyes and pretend like I was gaily hopping onto a trolley car in San Francisco. I bumped my head immediately, and opened my eyes. The rest of the ride was uneventful. I had a boobie resting on the side of my arm as a baby was trying nurse, but I'd say that's fairly commonplace these days.
As for the rest of the week, things were same old same old. Took some walks, hung out with people, was a spectacle. The usual. Anyway, I'll write more tomorrow, but we're headed off to grab some rice and beans.
xoxo, til tomorrow
PS-These are pictures of my house! When I moved in it was completely empty. You can see the lovely summer blue paint showcased against the finely varnished couch and chairs. Mwaha. It's all a bit helter skelter, but it's really starting to grow on me! And yes, that is my toilet. Face the wall to pee, the door to poo. Easy as 1-2-3.
Kesho! (Tomorrow)

Kate Glanz a spectacle, go figure!

Glad to hear you week was almost uneventful. I did laugh picturing you running to get a bus....and of a random strangers hooter resting on you!! I think I would rather wear a diaper than poop in that hole. Your house looks adorable!! The picture must have been taken the day your house girl was there...it looked too clean! :) Off to two soccer games and two birthday parties today...just like last week..and the week before. Love you bunches!!

OMG, your place is so cute! My kids said, "Oh my gosh, her bed is so pretty!" These sheltered rugrats have never seen a mosquito net. Maybe the words rugrats and bed should no longer be in the same paragraph...sorry. Keep sending pictures! We love to see them!
ReplyDeleteLove ya,

I love that you had a boob resting on your arm. The image just makes me giggle! Oh my gosh Kate, Michigan beat Wisconsin today in the most ridiculous game ever. We were losing 19-0 I think going into the 4th quarter (maybe end of 3rd), and then we came back and won 27-25... It was so intense, I was using all my 4 letter words and screaming at the football Gods, and then I had to repent... It was crazy. Homecoming is next weekend, which should be fun too...wish you were coming home for it...On another note, I love your house! You did a really nice job with it! I can see you lounging on your couch, swatting at stray bugs and rodents, just livin life. Anyway, I love you and think about you all the time. Keep on keepin on Kate! I'm so proud of you!
ReplyDeleteThe house looks great, is there a bed for your mom and me?
